These petitions are all College of Letters & Science or Registrar petitions. If you are in the College of Engineering or CCS, you may need a different petition.

Please reach out the College of Letters & Science advisors for assistance on these petitions below.

• Change of Major Petition / Double Major Petition 

  • To switch major(s) to another, to drop major(s), to add an additional major, or to change your declared major(s). This process is through the College of Letters & Science. If you are in the College of Engineering or College of Creative Studies, please contact either the Linguistics undergrad advisor or a college advisor for the correct petition.

  • Please contact the course instructor and secure their approval before completing this form. While instructors do not need to sign the form, the College of Letters & Science requires instructor approval.

• Enrolling in Linguistics Graduate Course as an Undergraduate

  • Contact instructors for approval before completing this form! Please also note that the instructor's UCSB email MUST be used, only their @ucsb.edu email will work on the form. 
  • Please read and follow the steps below carefully to petition to enroll in a Linguistics graduate course as an undergraduate¹:

1. Fill out all sections required as assigned to you:
   • For Instructor Details: Use your faculty instructor's UCSB email and their instructor code (if your instructor does not know their instructor code, they may check so here, on the SASC website for faculty support).
   • Other course details needed like the enrollment course number, are all listed on GOLD.
2. Submit: Click "Finish".
   • The form will automatically route to the faculty instructor and the Linguistics Department Chair for signatures. Once all signatures are collected, you will receive the final PDF via email. You must download this completed form.
3. Email the Registrar by attaching the PDF you downloaded to the Office of the Registrar at Registration@sa.ucsb.edu.

Petition to Enroll Grad Course as UG²

IMPORTANT NOTES:
¹The Registrar will manually add you to the Linguistics graduate course. The Linguistics department does not have the ability to add undergraduates to Linguistics graduate-level sections. 

• Please contact the Registrar if your petition was approved and you still have not been added in 1-2 weeks.

²This form is ONLY for Linguistics graduate courses as the form routes directly to the Linguistics Department Chair. Do not use this form for non-linguistics graduate courses. See the link below for the College of Letters & Science "Other Petitions" for the standard non-linguistics form.
