Past Activities

April 9th-11th: At CELCNA for the weekend

Tim Henry, Alex Walker and Stephanie Morse are giving presentations this weekend at the Conference on Endangered Languages and Cultures of North America (CELCNA). Alex is talking about word-initial glottal stops in Southern Pomo. Tim is discussing the responsibilities of the linguist when creating dictionaries based on his experience with Ventureno Chumash and Stephanie is talking about the theories of Folk Taxonomies as they relate to Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe).

April 20th: Chris Klaassen and Maori Revitalization

We will be meeting at 7:30 PM at Marianne and Wally's house to hear from and speak with Chris Klaassen. He's been doing great work with Maori (New Zealand) language revitalization, so we'll get a chance to hear him present his work and to ask questions. A main dish will be provided, but side dishes and desserts are highly encouraged!
Hope to see you there!

April 30th-May 1st: Workshop on American Indigenous Languages

The 13th Annual WAIL conference, is going to be held April 30th-May 1st, 2010. We have a great program this year. We have a special panel discussing the issues of researchers working with their heritage language and a keynote address by the wonderful Sally Rice.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with set up and clean up. If you are free those days and would like to give us a hand, your help would be greatly appreciated!
