Keynote Speaker: Dr. Sun-Ah Jun
“An exception to Korean intonational phonology: Sociolinguistic and phonological factors”
Dr. Sun-Ah Jun is a professor in the Department of Linguistics at UCLA. She completed her doctoral dissertation, on The Phonetics and Phonology of Korean Prosody, at The Ohio State University. Dr. Jun’s primary research interests include intonation and prosodic typology, laboratory phonology, language acquisition, and the interface between prosody and subareas of linguistics. She has developed a model of Korean intonational phonology and Korean ToBI prosodic transcription system. She has edited a book, Prosodic Typology: The Phonology of Intonation and Phrasing (Oxford University Press), a collection of intonational phonology and ToBIs of various languages.
The Linguistics Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara announces its 18th Workshop on East Asian Languages (WEAL).
The workshop is an informal meeting where participants can present and discuss issues on languages in East Asia, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
※ WEAL 2012 will take place on Saturday, March 3rd at the McCune Conference Room, 6020 HSSB, UCSB.
