LINGUISTICS UNDERGRADUATE CLUB

The Linguistics Undergraduate Club provides opportunities for undergraduate linguistics majors and minors as well as other students with an interest in linguistics to learn more about the field, to socialize, and to find out about careers, graduate school, and other opportunities.

Workshop: How to Spend Your Summer Vacation

Topics to be discussed include:
- How can I find an internship in linguistics for summer or fall?
- What can I do to prepare for applying to graduate school next year?
- What last-minute opportunities are there to take language classes or courses in linguistics either at UCSB or elsewhere?
- How can I pursue an interest in fieldwork or research?
- What are some interesting books and films related to linguistics that I can look for?

Even if you know what you'll be doing this summer, the workshop will give you information about how to prepare for the fall and beyond, as well as linguistics-related leisure activities.

Amy Sexton (Ph.D. in Linguistics, Rice University, 2001) of Gap International, Inc., a Philadelphia-based consulting firm (unrelated to Gap Inc. clothing company) will be on campus for an informal discussion with students in linguistics and related fields about employment opportunities for linguists. Gap International hires both graduate and undergraduate applicants who have training in linguistics and a strong interest in the relationship between language and thinking.
