UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT NEWS
Graduating senior linguistics major Savanna King earned her Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) certificate in July 2007 and taught English as a Second Language in the adult education department at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA, during the 2007 summer session.
Graduating senior linguistics major Katherine Rushton received the 2007 Reardon Undergraduate Award for outstanding academic achievement in an arts or humanities discipline, in recognition of her senior honors thesis, "Wonderful Copenhagen to Gästvänliga Atlanta: Emblematic English in Swedish Advertising."
Junior Corinne Seals, a double major in linguistics and law and society, completed her thesis in Spring 2007. The thesis is titled "Te Espero: Varying Child Bilingual Abilities and the Effects on Family Dynamics in Mexican Immigrant Families."
Corinne Seals presented an original research paper, "Unusual Palatalization in English Songs by Native Russian Singers," at the Tenth Annual University of California Undergraduate Conference on Slavic and East/Central European Studies at UCLA in April 2007.
