The Linguistics lab in South Hall 4430 will see an important new addition this year, with the brand new phonetics lab currently being installed in one of the larger breakout rooms (pictured). “The phonetics lab will serve as a forum of discussion on topics related to speech and phonetics,” explains Professor Argyro Katsika, “and it will also offer an array of tools for data acquisition and analysis. In addition to lab and fieldwork recording equipment, the lab will feature an Electromagnetic Articulometer (EMA), a portable ultrasound, an Electroglottograph, and video cameras.” In addition to these devices, the lab will be equipped with computers to run production and perception experiments and handle data acquisition, storage, and analysis. The lab is set to open in April 2017, with the installation of the EMA.
