Lynnette Arnold published an article entitled "The Reconceptualization of Agency through Ambiguity and Contradiction: Salvadoran Women Narrating Unauthorized Migration" in Women's Studies International Forum 52: 10-19.

Joseph Brooks presented a paper entitled "Revisiting "switch-reference": On the Contact-Induced Origin of Clause Chains in Chini" at the 48th Annual Meeting of Societas Linguistica Europaea in Leiden, the Netherlands, on September 2.

Simon Peters received a Critical Language Scholarship from the U.S. State Department to participate in an intensive Chinese language program for two months at the Dalian University of Technology in Dalian, China.

Heather Simpson presented a paper entitled "Memory Capacity Limits in Processing of Natural Connected Speech: The Psychological Reality of Intonation Units" at the meeting of the Cognitive Science Society in Pasadena in July.
