CLaW will be held in room 6020 in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building (HSSB), which is marked with a red star near the center of this map of the UCSB campus. The room is on the sixth floor.
The UCSB campus is located about 10 miles outside of the city of Santa Barbara, near the smaller city of Goleta. Although the campus is adjacent to the Santa Barbara airport, there are few lodging options in the immediate vicinity. Most hotels are closer to downtown Santa Barbara.
Maps of and driving directions to the UCSB campus can be found here. The campus is also accessible by local bus from the Santa Barbara/Goleta area. You can find information regarding the bus system, including maps, schedules, and stops, at the MTD website. The most convenient buses are the Line 24x (UCSB express from downtown Santa Barbara) and the Line 11, either of which will drop you off directly at campus. The campus bus stop is located at D3 on the campus map, slightly above and to the right of the red star. Line 11 also serves the airport.
If you are driving to campus, you can park in any of the lots marked in yellow on the map. Lot 27 is closest to the conference building. All-day parking costs $8, payable at the electronic meters located in each lot. Change will not be given at these meters. You must pay with exact change or credit card.
Santa Barbara is a tourist town. While there are many hotels in the area, the less expensive ones fill up fast, so make reservations early! The hotels closest to campus are in Goleta; those in downtown Santa Barbara are more expensive, and you'll need to take a car or MTD bus (24x for express service, line 11 for the bus that makes frequent stops in Santa Barbara and Goleta) to get to campus.
The following hotels are on a direct bus route to the UCSB campus, the airport, and downtown:
Super 8 Motel
6021 Hollister Ave., Goleta, CA 93117
5490 Hollister Ave., Santa Barbara, CA 93111
(Hotel is next to Highway 217, which leads directly to UCSB.)
See the UCSB visitors page for more information about local lodging, including a partial list of Goleta, downtown, and beachside hotels.
MTD is the Santa Barbara local bus service. Line 24x is an express bus that goes directly between downtown Santa Barbara and UCSB. Line 11 also connects downtown Santa Barbara with UCSB, but makes many other stops along the way, including a stop at the airport. Fares, schedules, and other bus information can be found on the MTD website.
The Santa Barbara Airport is right next to the UCSB campus. There are regular flights to and from the major airports of Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as some more distant destinations.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is about 100 miles away from UCSB. The Santa Barbara Airbus connects Santa Barbara with LAX. It stops at the beach in Santa Barbara near many hotels, and has another stop in Goleta near UCSB.
Santa Barbara can be accessed by swimming almost due north from Pitcairn Island or almost due east from Tokyo, Japan. Note that these journeys are thousands of miles long and are not recommended for inexperienced swimmers.
